Shelly Fryer Review
This week, we got the opportunity to read and review an amazing educator named Shelly Fryer! You can find her blog here: http://www.shellyfryer.com/
Specifically, we read a post titled Technology 101 Skills For Teachers. This post is so full of information and provides so many ideas and resources for educators. Shelly is an author, a teacher, speaker, and an advocate for children everywhere. She is extremely passionate in her field and it shows in not only this one blog post, but her website as a whole. Checkout the post I reviewed here! http://www.shellyfryer.com/2016/11/20/technology-101-skills-for-teachers/ Fryer begins this post by giving us a look at the organization called Oklahoma A Plus Schools, and what work she does for that organization. A Plus Schools works to incorporate multiple content areas into different engaging activities, as well as incorporating art within our curriculum. And what helps them to do so? TECHNOLOGY! Schools everywhere are integrating more and more technology into their classrooms each year. Fryer expresses the importance of teachers understanding the technology today's children use, she even includes a general vocabulary list on her blog including terms a teacher may need to know! Many schools have been providing iPad's or other technology such as laptops to their students. Fryer also emphasizes the need for technology to enhance student creativity. Fryer has a feature on her website called "Mrs. Fryers Classroom", which includes tons of resourceful information and links to her presentations. The "Classrooms" main use is for her 3rd and 4th grade students that she teaches in Oklahoma City, OK. There are many links to workshops for her students, some including pages of apps the students should checkout to increase their creativity like the page pictured below! One incredibly important point Shelly makes is the importance of teachers being knowledgeable about the apps they are using. Teachers need to know what students are capable of within an app, and must explore it to its full potential before asking his/her students to use it. If a teacher does not fully understand the technology, how can you expect the students to? By learning more about technology, you can open your students up to more opportunities within their education, such as saving and sharing their work on different resources, which is another point Fryer touches on in this blog post.
Shelly is also very active on her twitter. She uses many hashtags and tweets about her class frequently. She is very comfortable with technology, which isn't surprising given her credentials! Also, she makes great videos that play to her students strengths and can be a great asset to educators looking for tips or experiences. Overall, Fryers blog on its own, and this specific post, are a huge benefit to anyone in the education field. Technology has made its name in schools, and it's only growing from here. As teachers, we have to be aware of what could increase our students experience and creativity in the classroom. Technology is a huge factor and Shelly Fryer is doing a great job of spreading that.
